A new route! No ups and down the Moriches Inlets because there is alway cold wind one way or the other.
Low B- due to the coldness out there. Not supposed to be too windy! Bring lights, just in case we have a flat and are delayed, but we should be back by 3:30.
Stopping at Netties (mile 15) to warm up, they have a lovely wood burning stove. Then just 10 miles back to the park.
I always appreciate knowing if anyone is joining me, and who to wait for. 631 331 5642

A return to the Alien Highway with a new start location!
Lots of rolling terrain with that pain-favorite the Route 51 Hill. Those pesky aliens always seem to turn-up the winds when we head up Area 51...But never fear we'll ride together, and we'll have the Men-in-Black for protection: https://youtu.be/1RVRCd6J2NA
There won't be a formal stop, but we'll have a couple of wait-ups, after the difficult sections. (For the gravitational impaired).
Leaving from Southaven Park. and slowing the pace down for the cold weather. Check the morning of the ride for any changes or cancelations due to weather.
Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride - if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. Pulling is appreciated! I would like to keep the road speed between 15 & 16mph and come in at an average between 14 and 15mph.
Park at George Young Community Center - just off 25 - there's traffc lights and a gas staton on the corner. No bathrooms but we will stop at mile 6 at Vets park where there are facilities of some sort.
This is a scenic ride, stopping at the bagel shop by Braun's seafood and returning along Oregon and through Mattiuck. Due to the time of year and wind it will probably come in at a low B-
Check back morning of ride for any changes - before 8
Any questions text 631 331 5642 I always appreciate knowing if anyone is coming!

The Alien Ride lives and continues! This time, it's the extended miles director's cut, with some additional rolling terrain.
The route includes: Grumman Boulevard, Mill Road, Route 24, Area 51 and the Hill, Hart's Road and the new hilltop finish on Dayton Avenue. There's no formal stop on this ride - just some regroups, so we can stay warmed-up. And there's only two traffic lights that affect the ride, so get ready for some endurance work!
Judging by the ride from last week, there was some Alien technology assisting people up 51 Hill. Maybe it came out of the sky: https://youtu.be/_dsVgrO8cqQ

This is similar to the Nov. 27th ride from Cutchogue...but with some tweaks: we will rest stop at mile 20 at 7-11 in Southold (instead of Greenport); and I've added two beaches on the Sound side into the route: Horton's Point Beach, and Kenney's Beach.

Have to start later because I'm dropping someone off at Kennedy Airport at 7:00a. The extra hour allows the temperature to warm up a bit. A good thing. I'll buy coffee for anyone that wants one since I'll be getting one for myself.
This is a winter B paced ride.

The course keeps us fairly sheltered from the wind, and the hills and rollers will keep us warm! Highlights include Mill Road, Route 24, Area 51 and the hilltop finish on Dayton Avenue.
As usual, there will be no formal stop, but we will have regroups after the difficult sections. So, once you warmup, you'll stay warm.
Much of the course is sheltered from the wind. And much of the areas that are open will be downwind, excepting the Hart's Road wind tunnel!

Weather will be unseasonably mild for this time of year and wind will be in our favor for a nice one-way ride out East. Plan is to ride along the south shore and catch the LIRR back to Patchogue. Actual mileage will depend on how far we can ride until we intercept the 2:48pm train that leaves from Montauk. I know we won't be able to make it all the way to Montauk but we'll see how far we get - Bridgehampton (3:21pm) or possibly East Hampton (3:12pm).
We'll make a few quick rest stops along the way. Pls pack sufficient hydration, food, $$ and cell phone. We'll discuss lunch options during the ride.
Nettie's is closed this week, so we have modified the ride. Let's start to ring out 2022 with a ride with a few extra rollers. Forecast is for decent temperatures for late December, so join us as we make our way around Manorville and Calverton, on mostly quiet paths and roads. All and all, a neat 32 or so miles with some nice long stretches of riding.
We will not be making a stop to buy lunch during the ride. There will be a number of stops along the way, so please bring any food you may want or need as well as sufficient hydration. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
To join the ride or if you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:30 on the day of the ride.
We will be leaving Bank of America and head to Great River and East Islip for a 20 mile ride. The ride will be at a B- pace with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15 mph and road speeds that will reach 16 to 18 mph.
Changes or cancelation will be posted by 1:00pm day of ride.
If you have any questions call or text Mike at 516 448-8545.
Not much rain yet but no reason to make ruts today. Sorry ...
This will be an Intermediate ride. Planning to do SLOW hills on either the Intermediate trail (east of the power lines) or the Advance trail (west of the power lines) depending on who shows. I will ride with the slowest rider (may be me ;-) ).
Please contact me at the cell # below if you plan to do the ride ... else I won't be directly contacting anyone if my plans change.
Check back to this posting as Life Happens and Things Change. ... Check back before leaving for the ride as this ride maybe changed or cancelled.
