Join me for this easy and almost completely flat ride from Mattituck to Riverhead, where we will take a break at Briermere. When we return to Mattituck, we can get a slice of pizza (if you want) and then go to the Magic Fountain Ice Cream for a treat (if you want)! {all food is at personal expense}
This is a C+ ride, which will average 12.5 - 12.9, depending on the weather and those in the group. The route may be flexible, due to the winds, so probably no cue sheets.
Please be aware the start is at the Mattituck Marketplace. Bathrooms available on Main Road in the CVS, across from the Magic Founatin.
NOTE: I am limiting the nuber of riders on my rides, so you MUSTtext me with your Name, SBRA Member Number, and Emergency Contact phone number if you want to ride. I will return the text: YES, you have a spot…or…NO, Ride Filled...CELL #: 631-523-2129
Going to Great River. Just a little slower and a mile shorter than Howard. I would like to come in between 14.5 and 14.9 mph +/- a tad. In order to get this average we will be doing road speeds between 14.5 and 16 mph. Expect down hills and wind at your back to be faster. We will take a break at the bagel shop about mile 14. Things could change slightly due to road conditions and wind direction.Pulling is always appreciated. There will be GOOD STUFF after the ride
If you have any questions, or concerns please text me at 631.484.3490. Should there be a cancelation or change it will be posted by 7:15am.
A mid to high B- depending on who is riding. Stops for water (I can't drink and ride) and views.
A very scenic ride, lots of water views and one beach, that I have never been to before, but want to see. We go to Nassau point (optional hill, but it is a fun ride out to the end), followed by Cedar Beach where there is a portapotty and then to the mystery beach in Southold. We will also be going to Horton Lighthouse before returning to our cars.
We will stop at a deli in Southold (mile 23), if anybody wants food/drink/rest.
Once around Stony Brook Harbor, including Nissequogue, Head of the Harbor, Stony Brook Village, Setauket, and Old Field.
Plenty of scenic back roads, plenty of climbing.
Ride will be done at a "B" effort, ride average will be lower due to the 2,000+ feet of climbing. We'll stay together, wait-ups as needed.
I haven't found anywhere in Stony Brook for a snack break, so please bring plenty of snacks, we will take a break at West Meadow Beach at around mile 28.
Meet at the Smithtown library, park in the back lot.
Any ride changes will be posted by 7 am the morning of the ride.
Sign-up by texting name, mem#, emer#, cell# to 631-655-5447, or sign-in the morning of the ride.
Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride - if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. At these speeds Pulling is Important ! I would like to keep the road speed between 17 - 19 mph and come in at an average Hi 15 and Lo 16. Cyclists coming with "E" bikes must stay at the end of the bike line. Good stuff after the rid
