NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.
For Other Events in our area and off Long Island check out the "Other Rides & Events calendar" and the "Forums"

This will be a century training prep ride. I am not aware of a formal SBRA Century ride this season, however, I am planning to do a few century rides during the year. I am also planning to post a few Bike/Train rides out to Montauk and Greenport (ride out east and take LIRR back).
The ride on Saturday will start at Herman Griem Park in Wheatley Heights. We'll head out to Sayville and then return via Bethpage.
Preregistration IS required for this ride. Please txt your name, SBRA #, cell # and emergency contact # to (347)922-3824. SBRA Covid guidelines will be followed. All riders will be required to carry a mask with them but you will not be required to wear it while riding. Masks must be worn at ride start and all rest stops.
Changes will be posted by 6:30am.
If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Thank you!!
The Thunderbirds are back, now that the great paceline ban is over! So we'll start posting on the SBRA Calendar again and see how it goes...https://youtu.be/Ikw_dSB12QQ
So let's meet at the South Street School at 9:00 AM for a flat to lightly rolling route to Hampton Bays, where we'll have a short stop at roughly half the distance. The plan is to keep everyone together and work together as a team, so no one gets dropped! Also, short of buying water, etc. or hitting the bathroom, we'll stay outside to minimize our exposure to the Virus. (Remember to bring a mask, for when you are indoors at the stop).
Now for the yada yada, in addition to SBRA's:
This is a paceline ride, so be comfortable when riding in a group.
You should be able to ride in a straight line - no weaving around.
You should be able to pedal continuously -> no pedal-pedal-coooast, pedal-pedal-coooast! Also, there aren't many traffic lights, so get ready for long periods of pedaling!
You should be comfortable when being occasionally passed on the right, depending on conditions (you do drive on the LIE?).
If you would like to join this ride please text me - 516-983-4827 I need your name, SBRA #, emerg cell # That way I can prefill the ride sign in sheet. Wheels up at 9:15am for a ride to Shirley Boat Launch and back. We will stop for refreshment at the Deli on William Floyd behind the 7/11 in route to the boat launch. There will also be a bathroom stop at Wertheim around mile 13. Depending on the wind and direction we should average 14.5 - 15. Of course in order to obtain this average at times our road speed could be 15-17 mph. No one will get dropped. Please check ride calendar at 7:30am day of ride for go or no go incase of issues which would prevent me from riding or bad weather.
Join me for this C+ ride, which will average 12.5 - 13.0.
No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. We will ride from Sayville toward Oakdale, then back past Sayville and loop around Patchogue. We will take our break at the Atlantic Ave. Deli. and a bathroom stop will be made on the way to, or from, our break. The exact route will be determined the morning of the ride, so there will not be cue sheets.
Park on the south side of the train station.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the ride start, to allow enough time for me to get everyone signed in and to "get yourself" ready.
NOTE #1: You must be a club member to go on club rides.
NOTE #2: rides at this time are limited. You MUST text me (CELL #: 631-523-2129) with your name & SBRA Member Number if you want to ride. I will return the text: YES, you have a spot…or…NO, Ride Filled.
At least two other rides are leaving from Sunshine Mall. In an effort to keep the number of riders at this location down, I am changing the start of my ride to the northwest parking lot at the Ronkonkoma RR station at 9:30. We will then pick up the BOA route ridden on Sundays. On Sunday it is supposed to rain anyway. Confused? Text or call. If you get a chance, please text me if you are coming.
This is a volunteer shared pull ride with road speed between 15-16 mph.
Check back for changes which will be made before 7 AM on day of ride.

COVID PRECAUTIONS: Generally speaking most of us who have been riding together do not wear masks during the ride, if you are only comfortable riding with those that wear masks, then you might want to chose a different ride. That said, please respect those that are on the ride and distance appropiately at the times we are not moving.
We are going to Manorville today. Quick stop for a break at McD's and then back. Please text me to let me know you are coming.(631-747-3464) Masks required please.
Starting at Emma Clark library - Main street Setauket. It is a right turn just after Setauket School, look for the little library sign on the right side of the road. Park at the very back left hand side corner.

We will be doing the flatter part of Setaket, visiting West Meadow beach and the university. Porta potty at the beach. No coffee stop but we will take short break(s) somewhere along the route.
Park in the overflow lot. Easy ride if you are just starting the season. No more than 20 miles. Bring snack and drink as I'm not sure if we will do a deli stop. Text me if you would like to join us. Check back for any changes which would be posted by 7 am.
Join a small group of riders who are trying to increase their speed and distance over the next month or so, culminating in an unsupported century ride.Although our goal is to do 100 miles and get in shape for off Island adventures, this is not the beginner century training, there is no new rider instruction and no obligation to do the whole series.
Bring or buy snacks or quick lunch at a bagel stop.Even though the Club rules are clear please wear a face covering at the beginning, end and any stops.
NOTE: We normally park in the senior center, which due to Covid, has been closed. If it has reopened, we will park on COVE Street, directly accross from the senior center. Off to Cutchogue, with scenic water views (Peconic Bay and L.I. Sound) as we ride past farms and vineyards. There will be several porta-pottie stops, as well as a real bathroom stop in Cutchogue. Bring snacks and water for our scenic stops, and we will have a food stop at either Scoops and Grinds or 8 Hands Farm. Scoops and Grinds has sandwiches, soups, baked goods and ice cream, and 8 hands farms is supposed to have a great food truck. This is a long ride, so plan your day accordingly. This ride usually fills up quickly. The ride is wind and weather dependent, so be sure to check the ride calendar by 08:15am the day of the ride. To join this ride, Text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your SBRA, emergency and cell numbers, your full name and date of ride.
