5 Boro Bike Tour Charity Team - St Baldrick's Foundation

    Hi Members

I wanted to let club members know that I am heading up a charity team for the St Baldrick's Foundation in this year's 5 Boro Bike Tour (May 6th). I am a committee member of the St Baldrick's Northport NY events and a 13 year "shavee". I do this in memory of my daughter who we lost to cancer at the age of 20

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the St Baldrick's Foundation, it originated right here on Long Island in 2000. It has grown to become the largest funding organization for pediatric cancer research in the world. It supports research and researchers at the best institutions around the USA and the world including Stony Brook's pediatric cancer program along with Cohens Children's, MSK etc. You can learn more about them here: www.stbaldricks.org

While the foundation's main fundraising is done through head-shaving events held all over the USA and worldwide, they've recently begun a program that encourages other types of events. As someone whose been regularly riding in the 5 Boro tour, and since that ride had a significant number of charity partners, I thought it would be an ideal event for the foundation; and they agreed. They purchased 10 entries to this years event (but more can be secured if there is enough interest).

All charity partners must set a minimum fundraising goal. Ours is a very modest $10K, thus each participant is asked to raise a minimum of $1,000.  Being a charity rider gets you many of the VIP benefits that the tour offers including a 1st wave start time, a before ride breakfast and an after ride reception area with lunch and free beer!

If you're interested in being a part of this team you can register on our event page here: https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/5boro  If you'd just like to sponsor my effort with a donation in any amount  you can access my page here: https://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/938509/2018. I'll be at the February meeting (weather permitting) if anyone has any questions, or feel free to email me:

And remember, you don't have to shave your head to be a part of this St Baldrick's event!

    Thanks!

    John Accardo
