Meetings Regarding Multi-Use Trail from Mt. Sinai to Wading River

The following has been received from Artie Johnsen and was initiated from the Suffolk Country Department of Public Works:

"Legislators – As you may be aware, utilizing the LIPA Right-Of-Way (ROW), SCDPW is progressing a multiple use path from Crystal Brook Hollow Rd to Wading River Rd.  See attached Google Earth layer which represents the path.  This ROW was once Railroad property thus the project is called “Rails to Trails”.

Please be advised that SCDPW be hosting (2) Public Information Meetings to present the concept to the public, show a preliminary path layout and obtain public input.  We have booked the Miller Place High School auditorium on Wednesday, March 29  and the Shoreham-Wading River High School auditorium and Wednesday, March 22.  Both meetings will start at 6 PM. The preliminary format of the meeting is as follows:

    1.       Display boards will be set up in front of the auditorium stage and will be maned with SCDPW and Consultant representatives.  From 6 to 6:30 Constituents will be able to view the boards and ask questions.

    2.       6:30 - Opening remarks by elected officials

    3.       6:45 - Brief presentation by SCDPW.

    4.       7:00 – Question and answer session moderated by SCDPW.  We feel that it is important that the pro-path people and anti-path people understand each other’s concerns and issues so that we can try and find common ground that works for all.

We are open to modifications to the format and plan on having SCPD in attendance to answer security questions.  Additionally, SCDPW will produce an information flyer that can be distributed and posted on various web sites to notify the public of this meeting.  Finally, we will do our best to mail a flyer to every property that is directly adjacent to the proposed trail.

Please let me know if you have any concerns.
