INFO: Assemblyman Edward Hennessey who sponsored the texting while driving bill and who is on the transportation committee has been a strong proponent of funding roadway and traffic improvements that implement complete streets design to empower and enhance communities. NYS passed a Complete Streets policy August 15, 2011.
Assemblyman Hennessey has also sponsored A7315 which seeks to significantly strengthen penalties for hit and run drivers. Both A7315 and funding complete streets projects make up a several-part approach to build our roadways smarter, make them safer for vulnerable users (pedestrians, bicyclists, runners, mass transportation riders) as well as for motorists of all ages and abilities and to deter those motorists who would hit a vulnerable user (pedestrian, runner, bicyclist) or other motorist and flee the scene rather than call for aid.
