A quick scenic morning ride - leaves the rest of the day free to get on with all the other stuff in your life. The ride is c+/b- due to the hills, on the flatter sections we keep a B- pace. There are several spots where faster riders can go ahead and there will be wait ups for slower riders (me!). No one will be left behind, do the hills at your own pace.
*** THIS IS THE RIDE THAT WAS POSTPONED ON SATURDAY ***
Well Hell's Bells, it's May and it's time to put on your horns, and add some more fun to our rides! This ride will be about 46 miles, leaving the South Street School at 9:00 AM with a eventual stop in Westhampton Beach.
So we'll head up to the old Grumman property to get some warm-up miles, then it's down Route 24 to the Alien Highway- the gateway to Hell. Then it's the Highway to Hell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEPmA3USJdI, as we ride through the hellish Land of the Dimpled Ball. After a regroup, it's a fast run down County Road 31 to the stop in Westhampton Beach.
After a chance to cool-off any singed tailfeathers, we'll head back along the south route, heading through Eastport (new turn) and Center Moriches. So don't burn all your feathers early on; you'll need them to fly you home!
There is road work on Route 25 between Wading River Manor Road and William Floyd Parkway, so we are going to avoid that area. The first loop of the ride will be eliminated. Thus, we will proceed from VMP directly through Grumman and towards the tanks. This will eliminate 12 miles from the ride, changing the distance from 56 miles to 44 miles.

ORIGINAL POST
This ride will be a steady 21 to 23mph for 56 miles. We will stop at Main Road Biscuit for a brief break. Consider making a purchase as we don't want to end up back at 7-11. Hope to see you at the start
We'll do the Intermediate trail which has a lot of hills at the north end. The wind will still make the woods inviting as you will hear the howl instead of fighting it. There are a number of B level Black Diamonds and the trail is laid out to bring riders back to all the BDs so folks can wait to re-join the group if they want to skip a DB or DBD. Check back later for more info.
The ride will be following the SBRA COVID-19 Guidelines. PLEASE text (@ 631-988-6557) or email @ me with your rider information (Name, Member #, Emergency #, Cell #). IF I don't receive any text messages I may vary the start time a bit. [nsamuels@optonline.net].

In preparation for Dan's Centuries, here we have a 58 mile ride from Riverhead Waterfront to Greeenport. We will stop at the base of Nassau Point for a senic veiw of Robin Shea's Island and then proceed to Greenport. Rest stop at our usual Greenport deli location and then back to Riverhead. Jeremy will be posting the companion A ride, hope to see you there!
First off, we'll meet at a ***new start location***, to get around the parkig wars: the Dayton Avenue School. It's less than 2 miles away from the South Street School, CORRECTION: it's at 151 Dayton Avenue with plenty of parking. (Thanks, Chip).
When you have a hard decision between a couple of tough choices, you're between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. Hmm more terrain or more miles, I think we need more miles. And I definitely like the Sea better than the Devil...but I'm sure he'll be chasing us.
So the plan is a 50 mile paceline ride heading along a southern route to the Sea at Cupsogue Beach and then back through Westhampton Beach. After a fuel stop in Westhampton Beach at around 25 miles, we head north past the airport. Next we'll dodge a few dimpled balls, head down 51 Hill and head up to Route 24. Eventually we'll hit Grumman Blvd. and then it's down to South Street, before it's up Dayton Hill and the finish.
The terrain will be mostly flat to lightly rolling, except for the Land of the Dimpled Ball.
Since the mileage is going up, let's work together like a team. No surges and we look out for each other - no one likes being solo in the wind. AND, there will be mutiple choices, if we need to cut the distance.

We will stop at the base of Nassau Point for a senic veiw of Robin Shea's Island and then proceed to Greenport. Rest stop at our usual Greenport deli location and then back to Riverhead. (an optional extra, there are also good views at the beach if you chose to stop there).

Beware limited bathrooms on this route. Hope to see everyone. Additional Ride Leaders please post at your preffered classification.
This is the slower group. We will stay w/in the ride category limits. That's a maximum cruising speed (a sustained level) of 23-MAX. Maybe we should strive for 20 depending on the wind and hills

*** Note the start location: Dayton Avenue School. ***
This will be the se7enth ride of this Thunderbird season. Seven. Hmm 7, what does that tie into? Seven days of the week, lucky number 7, seven rings of inner Hell...Se7en deadly sins.
Well you can take pride in a 42 mile ride from Dayton Avenue School to Briemere Farms. We'll take the north loop out to Briermere. You'll also experience envy looking at other's' bikes, wrath as you counter surges on the ride, gluttony as you indulge on Briermere's goodies, sloth as you drag yourself home. I'm not touching lust.
The return leg takes us down to the river, with maybe a little change from the normal route.
Join me for this C+ ride, which will average 12.2 - 13.0. No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Ride destination will be determined by the road conditions; decision to be made the morning of the ride; no cue sheets. We will head to Blue Point, loop around Corey Beach, and stop at the Atlantic Ave. Deli for our break, and there will be a bathroom stop.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the ride start, to allow enough time for me to get everyone signed in and to "get yourself" ready.

Upping the mileage in readiness for the farm ride! I have posted it as a B- because of the distance, it will probably be on the high end of the range, might even go over into the low B average.
Please text me if you want to come on the ride - max 10 - 631 542 3137
Meschutt beach is at mile 19, then we will do Red Creek rd and come back down to Dune Rd in Quogue. WE are not going over 'that' bridge at the end of Dune Rd! There is no bathroom at the start of the ride - there is one at mile 9, 31 and Beach Bakery mile 37 where we will make another stop for refreshments. Bring a snack for the beach, I have no idea what food is available out that way.
Due to unforseen circumstances, the ride to celebrate Brenda's birthday has been postponed.
CHANGE: We will now be riding from Eastport to Westhampton. This is a C+/B- ride, which will average 13.5 - 14.0, partly depending on the winds, the riders, etc. Since the exact route will be determined at the start, so there willnot be a cue sheet for this ride. We will ride part of Dune Road (direction determined by the winds that day) and then take our break in Westhampton at the Beach Bakery, where bathrooms and food are available.(actually tomorrow) and we will probably meet up for some pizza (personal expense) after the ride. Check the calendar to select your ride and follow the ride leader's instructions regarding signing up for a ride!

We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. The ride could end end up a mile or 2 over 30.
The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 17.0 mph.
Please DO NOT PARK in the Meat Farms parking lot. Use the west side of the bank if the east side is full. Thanks!

The Lake Tour is a scenic ride (40 miles) that takes us past 3 of the "Great Lakes" of Eastern Suffolk County: Lake Panamoka, Peconic Lake, and Wildwood Lake in Riverhead/Southampton. Please note that this is a B+ ride with a cruising speed of 18-20 mph, less for hills if needed and SLIGHTLY more for wind at our backs and on downhills. I work at keeping the group together and wait-ups, at convenient locations, will be provided if someone drops off the back. The midway point is at Wildwood Lake where, besides a nice view of the lake, there is a porta potty that so far has been kept quite clean. We return via route 51 South to route 24 West to Mill Rd. If anyone drops behind on Mill, the waitup will be at the intersection of Mill, Halsey Manor, and Connecticut Rds. (stop sign). Please be mindful that this is a B+ ride with speed restrictions. Hope to see you there. Click on the link below to view or download the route: Mel-O Monday, Lake Tour

At the end of the ride we can all go for coffee and a bagel and chat as usual, if you want. The average pace for this ride will be between 14.8 & 15.0 mph; +/-. Naturally the road speed will be higher (15-17) to produce the average. This short ride has 3 break-a-ways. One rolling, and 2 downhill's to a flat. Up hills - let's call it an overpass and a short upgrade. The ride could be a mile or two longer. No worries, I know you can do it! Remember the bagel waits for you!

Sorry for the late posting ... The ride is relatively flat and will be a B pace. The route has a three mile optional down/up hill loop in Shoreham at the 3/4 point of the ride that we can skip or do just the less challenging long hill from the country club. The link to the route is below my text and includes the optional hill. Take a look at the ride elevation profile.

A fairly flattish ride, (though there are a few upward bits), to Netties bakery (mile 21) where there is coffee, bakery items, bathrooms and plenty of seating. Then a short 11 miles back to the cars. Hopefully the rain will hold off but if it looks threatening I will shorten the ride.
We will probably be at the low end of a B, maybe dropping down into the B- range. Speed depends on the riders and the wind. No one will be dropped, this is not a paceline ride, though I have no objections to people volunteering to pull!
If you would like to come along please text me - 631 542 3137 - I need name, SBRA#, emerg phone #. If you have ridden with me before I have all that info!
Let's head out fron the Sunshine Mall to Manorville, using some of the route from the old days. We'll include Mill Road and the Railroad Hill, just like it's supposed to be - like the good old days.
Stop at the bagel shop or McDonald's in Manorville.
Let's ride to Bellport, the normal route... with loops thrown in for good measure. We'll stop at the deli (or anywhere you prefer) in Bellport for snacks, otherwise pack a snack and we'll sit at the docks for a break.

Update - 5/28/2021 10AM - Predections Are That It Is Going To Rain During Ride Time On Saturday
It's off to Manorville. The average pace for the ride will be between 14.6 to 15.0 mph +/- depending on the roads, wind direction, rider ability or other conditions. Naturally, the road speed will be higher (15 -17 mph.) to produce the average. The route might vary slightly from the last time I did this route depending on conditions. A rest/ food stop at McDonald’s or the bagel shop is on the schedule around mile 16. There are a few places along the route where leg stretches can be done for those who wish to do so.
The ride could wind up about a mile or to two more than posted depending on the final route and the direction of the wind. No worries you can do it. Could be a mile less also; who knows. Think of it as an aventure into the unknown.
Any cancellation due to weather or any other circumstance will be posted no later than 0730 if necessary. If you have question about the ride just TEXT me at 631.484.3490. Eventually my phone and I will do a meet and greet in a reasonable amount of time...
Weather is looking iffy so please check back here for any changes/cancellations which would be posted by 7 am. We will likely go toward Oakdale and back to Corey Beach before returning to Sayville RR. No big deli stop so bring a snack. Join us for pizza after if you wish.

We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired. The ride could end end up a mile or 2 over 30.

Join me on Memorial Day for the Lake Tour ride where we tour Eastern Suffolk County's 3 "Great Lakes": Panamoka, Peconic, and Wildwood Lake (town of S.Hampton). This is a B+ ride that will cruise at a steady and smooth 20 mph with exceptions for hills (Up: slower, Down: faster) and wind (in our face: slower, at our backs: faster).
Note: Memorial Day is a day where you can dig out that old patriotic jersey or kit (that you wear only once a year) and proudly display it on the pace line. I have one and I'll be wearing it. The rest stop will be at Wildwood lake town park which has a clean porta potty, and maybe the actual bathrooms might be open for business. I don't usually have a Sweep on the ride but we will have waitups (where appropriate) if someone drops off the back. The last waitup will be on Mill Rd. at the Halsey Manor/Connecticut Ave intersection (stop sign). Please remember this is a B+ class ride where we will cruise at a steady and smooth 20 mph.
They say you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink. But maybe you can lead some riders to Briermere Farms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Vpov5SOTEI So let's meet at the South Street School, and use the side lot near the electronic sign for a ride onto the North Fork.
This time around, we will keep this as a moderate-paced paceline ride at a B/B+ pace -> some of us have to go to work tomorrow. That means no raising the pace, no dropping anyone and working together. The route will take us out on the north route and bring us back through the Pine Barrens. And of course we'll have that stop in Briermere..
So, if you tired of the same old routes, or want to ride without stopping every five minutes for a traffic light, you're welcome to join us. Those of you who want to try a faster ride are welcome, too - just don't try to hijack this ride!
Time changed to 9:30 to give the roads a chance to dry a bit. I will text those that told me they were coming of the time change.
I am putting this ride up with the route to be decided later on in the week. I am posting it as a B/B+ for the ride as it might be a recovery ride after riding for the past couple of days. Please text if you are coming and watch for any updates towards the end of the week.
This is a not so serious ride, but it's a challenge. Come test out the limits of your gravel bike. Those that do not have one this is also very friendly to mountain and fat bikes. Please bring plenty of water and nutrition. There will be waits ups, no public bathrooms on this ride, no official rest stop.
There will be sand, gravel, dirt, roots, rocks, minimal pavement involved. I would say that 90% of the ride is trail. Just a FYI, this is a multi use trail so we will yield to horses and pedestrians if encountered.
Wider tires are recommended.
I am estimating the mileage, it could be + / or minus a few. I will actually put a computer on my bike so that it will be accurate the day of.
I posted this as a B/B+, in no way are we coming in at that average, it's more for the level of difficulty.
DUE TO CONSIST RAIN I AM MOVING THE START TIME TO 9:30AM TO ALLOW TIME FOR THE ROADS TO DRY AND EVERYONE'S SAFETY
If you would like to join this ride please text me - 516-983-4827 I need your name, SBRA #, emerg cell # That way I can prefill the ride sign in sheet. Wheels down and rolling at 9:30am for a ride to Smithspoint Beach and back. We will stop for refreshment somewhere along the ride. There will also be a bathroom stop at Wertheim around mile 13. Depending on the wind and direction we should average 15.5-16.0 mph a bit faster than previous rides. Of course in order to obtain this average at times our road speed could be 15-19 mph.
Please check ride calendar at 7:30am day of ride for go or no go incase of issues which would prevent me from riding or bad weather.
