Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride.

Details (RL read field instructions carefully):

I’m not a golfer, but there’s a saying in golf, probably from Tom Moore, that goes like this:  “it’s hard to swing easy, and easy to swing hard.”  Well, the same goes for cycling, it’s hard to ride easy, and easy to ride hard.  This will be a hard ride, we are going to ride easy.  A purposeful zone 1, very low zone 2, or for those that are zoneless, a steady 17 - 17.5 mph.  Anyone wishing to change those parameters will be on their own.  So come out for a hard ride.  I hope to see you.
